Chest pain is the most common symptom ER doctors see, and one of the most important. Fifty percent of deaths from heart attacks happen within the first four hours, so get to the ER quickly. But chest pain isn't the only sign of a heart attack. Other signs that your ticker's in trouble include pain in the arms, left shoulder, back, neck, jaw, or stomach, breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, indigestion, extreme weakness, or anxiety, and a rapid or irregular heart beat.

An aneurysm (AN'u-rizm) is a bulge in a blood vessel, much like a bulge on an over-inflated inner tube. Abdominal aortic aneurysms are caused by a progressive weakening of the aortic wall that causes a dilation, or "ballooning" of the vessel. The new channel may become so big that it compresses the normal flow of blood depriving organs of blood flow and oxygen.

They are commonly further classified by shape, structure and location. Cerebral aneurysms occur more commonly in adults than in children but they may occur at any age. They are slightly more common in women than in men. Cerebral aneurysms are also more common in people with certain genetic diseases, such as connective tissue disorders and polycystic kidney disease, and certain circulatory disorders, such as arteriovenous malformations.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms account for approximately 75% of all diagnosed cases. They occur below the arteries that deliver blood to your kidneys. Thoracic aortic aneurysms account for the remaining 25% of cases. They happen behind your heart.

The symptoms of a brain aneurysm forming can be hard to spot. Almost 90% of the people that have an undamaged aneurysm do not have a clue that something is wrong. This is the group that is in the most danger of being permanently injured, or worse, die, when the aneurysm burst.

Aortic aneurysms can develop anywhere along the length of the aorta. The majority, however, are located along the abdominal aorta. Most (about 90%) of abdominal aneurysms are located below the level of the renal arteries, the vessels that leave the aorta to go to the kidneys. This normal aging process coupled with other risk factors listed below may lead to an aortic aneurysm. Arteries are muscular tubes.

If you are aware of Aortic Aneurysms in your family history it is important to know that it is a concern for high risk. The majority of Aortic aneurysms occur in the abdomen. Causes of aortic aneurysms can include tobacco use, high blood pressure that is not controlled, infection in the aorta (vascular), previous injuries to the aorta and traumatic injuries. Another important complication can occur once the aortic aneurysms occur and that is blood clots.
